Terms of use
Plain language, because you deserve to know exactly what we do and don't do. By using Choose a Companion, you agree to these terms.
1. What Choose a Companion is
Choose a Companion is an introduction service. We create a space where families and independent senior companions can find each other. That is our only promise.
We are not a home care agency, employment agency, recruiter, staffing service, or care provider. We do not employ, supervise, schedule, direct, train, or manage companions, and we do not provide care of any kind.
2. What we check
For companions shown as verified members, we do two things: Aimee personally interviews them, and we check that they hold a Vulnerable Sector Check, which we display with a date.
We do not confirm government identification, insurance, résumés, references, certifications, training, tax or business status, immigration or work status, driving records, or any other credential. An interview and a police check are screening steps only — they are not a guarantee of anyone's honesty, conduct, competence, safety, or suitability for your parent.
3. Independent listings
Some listings are compiled from publicly available information and are labelled "Independent listing — not vetted by us." They are not interviewed, not checked, and not endorsed. Information may be inaccurate or out of date; confirm everything directly.
4. Your decisions are your own
Companions are independent providers. Any arrangement is directly between you and the companion, including rates, hours, payment, scheduling, expectations, and ending the arrangement. Choose a Companion is not a party to it and receives no payment from it.
You are responsible for deciding who to contact, meet, and welcome into your parent's home, and for doing whatever due diligence you feel is right. Our what to ask page offers suggestions only — they are not requirements, standards, or promises, and following them does not make an outcome safe.
5. Limitation of responsibility
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Choose a Companion, Aimee, and anyone associated with the site are not responsible or liable for the acts, omissions, conduct, statements, qualifications, or performance of any companion, family, or other user, or for any injury, illness, loss, theft, damage, dispute, cost, or harm of any kind arising from a contact, introduction, visit, or arrangement made through this site.
The site and all listings are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that any companion is available, suitable, accurately described, or currently holding any credential.
6. Not professional advice
Everything on this site — articles, tools, checklists, assessments, and webinars — is general information. It is not medical, legal, financial, or employment advice. Companions do not provide personal care, medical care, or medication administration; speak to a regulated provider for those needs.
7. Companions
Companions are responsible for the accuracy of their own information, for holding any licence, insurance, or credential their work requires, for their own taxes and business obligations, and for their conduct with families. Listings may be removed at any time.
8. Removal and corrections
Any listed person or business may ask us to remove or correct their information. We unpublish within two business days of a request, and immediately when a listing is alleged to be inaccurate.
9. Safety and emergencies
If you believe someone is at risk of harm, contact emergency services. If something concerning happens through an introduction made here, please tell us so we can remove a listing — but understand we cannot investigate, adjudicate, or resolve disputes between families and companions.
10. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the service grows; the version on this page is the current one. Questions? Email hello@chooseacompanion.ca or talk to Aimee.
