Our real verification system

How we verify companions

When you see a Verified member badge, it means a real person — Aimee, who runs Choose a Companion and is a senior companion herself — has personally interviewed and approved that companion before they appear in the directory. Here is exactly what we check, what each badge means, and, just as honestly, what verification does not promise.

What a badge means

What a Verified member badge means

Every verified member is personally interviewed and approved by Aimee before appearing here. Badges are shown per companion, with dates, and only for what has actually been checked. If a check isn't shown, we simply haven't verified it — we never imply something we haven't confirmed.

Government ID confirmed

We've confirmed the companion's government-issued photo identification matches the person we interviewed.

Vulnerable Sector Check

A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is the enhanced Ontario police check required for people who work with vulnerable persons, such as seniors. We display the date it was verified; checks older than 24 months no longer display until renewed.

Liability insurance

We display an insurance badge until the policy's expiry date. After that it disappears until the companion provides proof of renewal.

A personal interview

Behind every badge is a conversation. Aimee speaks with each companion herself — because paperwork tells you some things, and a real conversation tells you the rest.

Honest limits

What verification does not mean

Verification is a screening step, not a guarantee. It means someone did their homework before you ever got in touch — it does not replace your own judgement.

You always meet the companion first, decide for yourself, and engage them directly. We make the introduction; the relationship is yours. We warmly encourage you to ask for and check references, and to trust how a first visit feels.

A different kind of listing

Independent listings are different

Alongside verified members you may see independent listings. These are compiled from publicly available information and are clearly labelled as not vetted by us. They carry no badges, and we show only a name, service areas, and a link.

Are you the business listed? Any independent listing can be claimed or removed in one click — get in touch and we'll take care of it.

Our promise

Our removal commitment

Any listed person or business can ask us to remove or correct their information. We unpublish within two business days of a request — and immediately when a listing is alleged to be inaccurate.

If something is claimed to be wrong, we take the listing down first and investigate while it's down, not while it's up. Getting it right matters more than keeping it live.

Free for families — companions set their own rates and you pay them directly.
