We're small, and here's exactly who we are

Choose a Companion brings laughter, company and dignity back into the week for aging parents across the Greater Toronto Area — and peace of mind to the families who love them. There's no big company behind it. There's Aimee.

Aimee, founder of Choose a Companion and a practicing senior companion in Toronto

Meet Aimee

Started by a companion, for families

I am a practicing senior companion in the Toronto area. Day after day, I see how enjoyable a week can be with the right company — and how hard it is for families alone to fill the gap for a lonely parent.

I created a way for families who worry about their parent to connect with people who care about seniors — companions who can help fill that gap. I still do this work myself, so I understand the need, and I know what families worry about at 2 a.m.

We make introductions

We're not an agency. We connect you with companions who serve your parent's area — you take it from there, and the relationship is yours.

Free for families

Companions set their own rates and you pay them directly. There's no cost to you for an introduction, ever.

Small on purpose

Every verified member is personally interviewed by Aimee before they appear. Being small is how we keep it personal.

Plainly

How we sustain the site

Family use is free today — and it will stay free. We don't charge families and we don't take a cut of what you pay a companion. If we ever earn revenue, it will come from optional membership services for companions, never from fees on families.

We'd rather tell you exactly how it works than leave you wondering.

Trust

How verification works

Aimee personally interviews every verified member and we check their Vulnerable Sector Check, shown with a date. We don't check anything else — and we say so plainly on one honest page.

Honest answers

Frequently asked questions

Are you an agency?

No. We're not an agency and we don't place or employ companions. We make warm introductions between families and independent companions who serve their area. Families engage companions directly.

How much does it cost families?

It's free for families. Companions set their own rates and you pay them directly. We never take a cut of what you pay a companion.

How do you sustain the site if it's free?

Family use is free today, and family use will always be free. Any future revenue will come from optional membership services for companions — never from fees charged to families.

What does 'verified member' mean?

It means Aimee personally interviewed them and we checked their Vulnerable Sector Check, shown with a date. That is all it means — we don't confirm ID, insurance, references, or qualifications, and it is not a guarantee about anyone. See How we verify, and our What to ask page for things worth asking a companion yourself.

What if a badge says 'not provided'?

We show exactly what a companion has and hasn't provided. 'Not provided' simply means we don't have that check on file — it's shown honestly so you can decide, and ask for anything else yourself.
