About & trust

We care for Mom. We care for Dad.

Choose a Companion exists to bring warmth, company and dignity back into the week for aging parents across the Greater Toronto Area — and peace of mind to the families who love them.

Our story

Started by a companion, for families

Aimee is a practicing senior companion in Toronto. Day after day, she saw how much lighter a week could be with the right company — and how hard it was for families to find someone they could trust.

So she built a warmer way: not a directory, not an agency, but a thoughtful introduction from someone who does this work herself. Loneliness is real — and it's something we can do something about, together.

We make introductions

We're not an agency. We connect you with companions who serve your parent's area — you take it from there.

Free for families

Companions set their own rates and you pay them directly. There's no cost to you for an introduction.

Honest verification

We show exactly what each companion has verified — and what they haven't — with dates, in plain language.

What verification means

Each badge, explained plainly

Here's what each verification represents. On a verified member's profile, every one is shown with the date it was confirmed — or marked 'not provided'.

  • Vulnerable Sector Check

A police background check for those working with vulnerable people. We confirm the date it was completed.

  • Government ID confirmed

We check that the companion's identity matches valid government-issued ID.

  • First Aid & CPR

Current certification in first aid and CPR, with the date last renewed.

  • Professional references

References from past families or employers, contacted and noted by us.

Honest answers

Frequently asked questions

Are you an agency?

No. We're not an agency and we don't place or employ companions. We make warm introductions between families and independent companions who serve their area. Families engage companions directly.

How much does it cost families?

It's free for families. Companions set their own rates and you pay them directly. We never take a cut of what you pay a companion.

What does 'verified member' mean?

A verified member has completed our verification steps, each shown explicitly on their profile with the date it was confirmed. Independent listings are clearly labelled as not vetted by us.

Who are the companions?

Caring, dependable people across the GTA who genuinely enjoy keeping seniors company — from retired professionals to experienced caregivers.

What if a badge says 'not provided'?

We show exactly what a companion has and hasn't provided. 'Not provided' simply means we don't have that verification on file — it's shown honestly so you can decide.
